I’ve been thinking about this for some time now. Who will be the villains in the third Christopher Nolan Batman?
The one villain that came to mind was Harley Quinn. Because the passing of Heath Ledger and the difficulty of recasting The Joker, Harley Quinn would be most appropriate in somewhat continuing The Joker story line. However, she wouldn’t be the main villain in the third Batman.
In this third installment the villain(s) will most likely be Poison Ivy and Bane or Penguin. The Riddler is an unlikely candidate because of the nature of Christopher Nolan’s dark films, and the only person who could really play the Riddler would be Jim Carrey again.
Penguin is a very dark and vicious figure which would go quite well with Christopher Nolan’s genre of Batmans. Penguin’s creepy love for birds and umbrellas could really mesh in with the current Batman story line.
Poison Ivy and Bane could be possible, but a little less likely because of their origins. Both Poison Ivy and Bane were infused with chemicals and such from plants, which would not really coincide with Christopher Nolan’s more realistic, less supernatural Batman.
So, in my opinion, the two villains in the third Batman should be Harley Quinn and The Penguin. But there has been rumor of The Riddler in the third Batman and an article can be found at The Coventry Telegraph

I couldn’t disagree more. There are not to Batman villains that would be sure to ruin a third Chris Nolan movie faster than Harley Quinn (who would never make sense sans the Joker and could never carry a story) and the penguin, who as only a wealthy man with an obsession for birds and the perfect crime offers up no possibility for expanding on Nolan’s “the nature of a hero” theme.
There are three villains that I want to see before Chris Nolan retires from Batman.
1. After the death of Rachel Dawes, I want Catwoman. She comes screaming out at me as a logical “up the ante” choice, and with Batman now hunted by the police as a cop killer her vicious style and twisted brand of honor offer something the 3rd movie needs.
2. The Terrible Trio (OK this only counts as one) can’t carry a movie and I know it’s problematic but they would make great support players in their more believable “animated series” incarnation. The three wealthy men are the opposite of Bruce Wayne; the use there wealth and money for crime. And act out of selfish boredom. Redone by Chris Nolan they would be the perfect foils and sub-villains. Plus, based on the art direction of the first two, I think they would be really visually compelling characters.
3. I think the main villain should be the Black Mask for three reasons. 1- He has never been the subject of a movie and like the first choice of Ra’s al Ghul that should propel him to the front of the list. 2- He continues the first and second movie’s elements of pitting Batman against the mob and organized crime. 3- This movie is about (if we trust the end of Dark Knight) how Batman is being hunted, yet is he relatively safe in his life as Bruce Wayne? Can he go unmolested as long has he avoids slipping into the outfit? Not if Black Mask is on the loose! Nolan has proven that he has a talent for reinventing characters and making those not often paid attention to villains real and compelling. He could do great with the Black Mask providing he ditched most of the makeup back story and stuck to what is important. Here is a killer and a mobster who is trying to kill Bruce Wayne while the whole city is hunting Batman.

Those are really great ideas there. I’m personally not a huge Batman fanboy or anything, so I don’t really know many of the less popular villains. I didn’t even know who Ra’s al Ghul was until Batman Begins.
I like your ideas of really carrying the last bit of The Dark Knight into this third one, with the whole city after him it could make for something really interesting.
However, there have been rumors on a couple villains in the third Batman.
If the Riddler is going to be in it, David Tennant from Dr. Who has shown an interest in playing him. It has also been rumored that if Penguin would be a villain the in the third installment, Philip Seymour Hoffman is willing to play the role.

Main Villian: Bane
Mafia villian:Black Mask
Side villian (only one or two):Deadshot, Riddler, Anarky, Hush, KillerCroc
Women villians: Harley quinn or Talia al Ghul (who knows maybe both)
Reasons behind these villians:
BANE: Bane outmatchs batman in toe to toe combat and is also strateigic genuis, who has venom that makes him incredibly strong but he is incredibly strong even without the venom.
Having bane trying to take out batman would be perfect.
Bane would take the whole situation that the cops are chasing batman and use it to a perfect advantage. He really is very smart not like how Batman and Robin the movie perceived him.
BLACK MASK: A mafia boss who is one of the best, it combines the mafia and a so called “Freak”. He would know how to take advantage of batman being chased by the cops. He would take advantage by taking control of the underworld crime. (I think he would be a great Mafia boss adding in the fact that joker said “You’ve changed everything there is no going back) In that the mafia would have to be different than they were before, which would be perfect for the Black Mask.
Deadshot: He is known to have the best aim in the entire DC universe. He has a complete messed up moral code. He is a hitman and will take out any person as long as the price is right. But he also has a daughter and wife that he is trying to support and keep safe. He would be able to maybe go after ppl who batman would need to protect from him or the mob can hire him to work for them against batman. It would be cool if they showed his family so that way maybe people can connect with him and gain a feel of who he really is
Riddler: Even though he seems to be liked, any movie with him as the main villian would be pathetic and would leave the critcs and audience ashamed of the movie. Nobody watching a movie will want to watch Batman have to solve those stupid riddles that he leaves, in comics people dont mind but in a movie u would want to shoot yourself and think its terrible. Riddler is a genius but one of the weakest batman villians. He leaves clues that batman always solves and then ends up catching him. (All the villians including random street thugs in the comics just think of the Riddler as a joke) He would be fine for a side villian that gives batman annoyance. It could take batman time to take out the riddler which would make batman not be at his best to fight the main villian which in my opinion should be Bane. (I really hope that The riddler isn’t in the movie, as much as people might throw his name out for the movie, they really would hate the movie even if they reinvent the riddler into nolans batuniverse, it would still leave for a completly pathetic villian, he’s just not entertaining even if they make him disturbed.)
ANARKY: Anarky would be a very good side villian (anti villian) He could be the one who sticks up for the little guy who commits crimes only to survive while batman would stop them from commiting crimes. Anarky is the Champion of the opperressed while Batman is the champion of the law. Anarky in the movie would leave Batman and the veiwer wondering who is really doing the right thing. This would be a great point in any batman film.
HUSH (Tommy): Tommy and Bruce were best freinds when kids. Tommy eventually becomes a Villian known as Hush who wears bandages around his head. He would be a fine side villian because we would get to see more of bruce wayne in his childhood and learn more about him. plus it would make for a good fight.
KILLERCROC: He would be ok. It would be fun to see him running around and killing. He is stronger and faster then batman and is able to regrow any limb cut off. He would make for great fight scenes. and also leave batman guessing as to his whereabouts and when he will commit his next murder because he never makes a plan he just looks for his next meal.
Woman Villians:
Harley Quinn: Everybody seemed to love the joker, thats why without having the joker she would be good. Harley quinn though first appeared in the animated series becaise she was so popular came into the comics.
She is Jokers right hand woman. She is almost just as crazy as the joker although only half as smart. She is in love with the joker but joker feels nothing for her (or does he we never know). She believes in all of jokers theories. She is also an acrobat.
She would be good as a woman villian because we havent seen a performance from her and she would add that “Jokerness” that everybody is attarcted to.
Talia Al Ghul: Daughter of the villian in number one:
She can take over the League of Shadows. she is smart, sexy, and in the comics Batmans one true love.
She would add the spice to the movie of batmans falling in love.
Batman has one weakness giving his heart to others and she can be his true weakness in the movie.
A combination of bane, Black Mask and any one of these side villians and either girl (I think they should do both). They should make it alittle longer than the second one, a long movie to end the trilogy.
I think Deadshot should be in the movie for sure because he can really just be a side that the mob hires even if there is already a side villain, he would be great for hire by the Black Mask, them two together would be perfect.

Also Mr. Mango thats not true about bane. It’s true he using this enhanced venom so he can be much stronger than anyone else, but in the comics he’s strong on his own and he’s a genius, only when he is in trouble in a hand to hand combat does he use the venom to gain enhanced strength.

How can you say that The Riddler wouldn’t be a likely candidate for a Nolan Batman villain…but you say The Joker is? I’ve been a fan of the Batman for my entire life. I’ve read all the comics and I’ve seen all the films. Nolan’s “new version” of Batman is trash. It is complete and utter garbage and resembles nothing to the comics. The Joker character was ruined, absolutely ruined in The Dark Knight. That’s not bashing Heath Ledger’s performance because he played the part extremely well as far as his acting abilities are concerned. He was a great actor. Furthermore, Aaron Eckhart as two-face was a disgrace to movie villains across the nations and borders of time. Eckhart is so one dimensional that I’m ashamed to know he was involved in anything Batman related. Yet again, I’m ashamed to know these past 2 films have been Batman films.
Back to my point. Read the comics and watch the original films, and read Bob Kane’s interviews about the villains in Batman. The Joker and The Riddler are more a happy sense of villain than anything Christopher Nolan can trash further. Your efforts in saying The Riddler doesn’t follow Nolan’s ideas are true, but your efforts in saying The Joker DOES are completely bogus. Perhaps reading a comic or two could serve you well.

Your argument is that no one would want to see Batman solve the puzzles….well what did he do with The Joker? *gasp* it seems he solved puzzles! Would you look at that…
The only reason The Dark Knight did so well is because it was all kids and teens that have never read the comics and have no idea what Batman is about.
